60 seconds with Colin Bridges, Business Development Director

Belimo Automation FZE will be exhibiting its latest products at HVAC R Expo in Dubai next November. We spoke to the Business Development Director, Colin Bridges; here's what he told us as he prepares to participate to the the largest construction event in the Middle East.

What are the major opportunities you spot in the region's construction industry?

Retro-Fit, where building cooling systems are being revisited to apply energy savings solutions in light of increasing energy costs and growing focus on sustainability. Internet of Things (IoT) technology, where data driven smart devices are being increasingly used to improve and enhance performance of cooling systems.

What are the major growth drivers for the construction industry in the UAE?

Political stability leading to investor confidence are no doubt key drivers in construction growth in the country. When investors see a plan, to diversify and strengthen the economy, they are more likely to get on board.

According to you, what are today’s top 3 trends in the construction industry?

1. Pre-fabrication – the use of pre-manufactured elements throughout the building to save time and drive up quality.
2. More innovative smart devices being used, to improve efficiencies. Data seems to be the key to informed action when operating HVAC systems.
3. Green thinking, where demand reduction measures bring about real savings for people and the planet.

What is the biggest challenge for you in the market this year and why?

Education – our customers are often blinded by choice, and when cost is a big priority or if price is the main driver – quality suffers. Therefore, we must educate our customers so that they can make better, informed decisions about what they want, and know what to expect.

Are there any innovative Products/Solutions your company has developed?

Our Belimo Energy Valve is an advanced IoT capable control device, which has integrated logic to manage circuit performance, save money and improve efficiency (www.energyvalve.com).

Why is it innovative?

Energy Valves give total visibility to circuit/system performance in chilled water and heating applications, by monitoring and storing data, then, making it available for recording/analysis/trending reports/Delta T management/precise Flow Control/Measuring energy use – all from a single data point. We believe we lead the field in this ground-breaking use of technology.

What products will you present at HVAC R Expo in Dubai this year?

1. Belimo Energy Valve with Cloud connectivity
2. Belimo Sensor Range
3. ZoneEase – new advance VAV system
4. Three way Butterfly Valve
